My daughter (like most kids, I guess) has always been curious about horse riding – how does it feel, what if the horse starts running when I’m on it, will the horse like me, how can it follow instructions and a lot more…
I came across an advert for ‘mini pony-riding experience’ at Oxhey Lane Farm in Pinner and thought it was a good place to start. A few of my daughter’s ‘school mums’ were interested too. So we all went for the ‘experience’ not knowing what to expect.
The lady who runs the pony riding sessions, Jacqui, had a couple of helpers (volunteers) and a couple of ponies. The kids were made to wear the riding hats and helped onto the pony’s back. The helpers took the kids around the farm for a short ride of about 5 minutes each. It was short but the kids got a flavor of it – it was the first time for all of them. It was a good taster session. As you would expect, kids had fun and didn’t want to go home. We plan to do it again sometime.
Jacqui said she plans to do much longer sessions and also regular riding courses.
