As a mum I completely understand how we are all hard pressed for time in the morning rush. Thank goodness, for me, putting on makeup is the last thing I need to tick before I leave home. So that’s one thing less to do in the morning!
Women applying makeup on train is a common sight. Personally, I would be uncomfortable doing that. But I guess I don’t have much say in this matter as I’m almost always without any make up! But I must admit I have seen some amazing transformations on the train! Once I saw somebody wear eyeliner perfectly, by balancing mirror between two fingers, on a fast moving, crowded train. I was sold… I walked straight into Boots and bought a felt-tip eyeliner. (How many times I have used it since I bought, is a different matter…).
The other day I saw a man shaving on the platform. The wonders of gizmos… soapless, bladeless… what not… Would you believe – I have seen a girl walk into the train station with curlers (the bendy/twisty ones not the cylindrical ones) still stuck in her hair! I was not sure if she was curling the hair on the go, or just making a fashion statement.
This makes me wonder – isn’t personal grooming a very private thing done behind closed doors? Aren’t you supposed to leave the house in a state you are happy for the world to see you? It’s funny how we are very guarded about our personal space and yet are okay to do personal grooming in public. We are happy to pour our heart to and give every little detail on Facebook, yet we hardly make an effort to know our neighbours… Let’s just blame it on the demands of modern life, for the time being…shall we?
